Dr Vijaykumar Malladi is a practising Laparoscopic Surgeon in Navi Mumbai and Kharghar. He is also a Founder Member of Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI). AMASI is a subset of Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), responsible for spreading awareness and training laparoscopic surgery to the medical community.
Dr Malladi did his MBBS from Mumbai University and subsequently completed his Masters in General Surgery from Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College & Hospital, Mumbai. He received the “Dr. Gool Contractor Memorial Award”, awarded for the best trauma registrar – 2001 by Staff and Research Society, L.T.M Medical College & Hospital, Sion, Mumbai.
Dr Malladi started his laparoscopy training in Mumbai at Shrikhande Clinic. He received one year basic laparoscopy training under the guidance of Dr. Anand G. Nande. Dr Malladi applied and was selected for a two-year fellowship at GEM hospital, Coimbatore. At GEM hospital, he completed his advanced training under Dr C Palanivelu – a world renowned laparoscopic surgeon.
Dr Malladi has published several scientific papers in peer reviewed indexed medical journals. He has contributed chapters to books on laparoscopy by Dr C Palanivelu’s - Laparoscopic Hernia surgery & Art of Laparoscopy. He has been an invited speaker in various conferences in and around Mumbai.
He has continued to develop and deliver the art of laparoscopic surgery in the area of Navi Mumbai & Kharghar. At present, Dr Malladi is devoting his time to setup his unit at Kharghar for continuing the goals of AMASI – “MAS for MAS” - Minimal Access Surgery to Masses by 2020. Dr Malladi conducts frequent interactive sessions for the general public to create awareness about laparoscopic surgery.
Common laparoscopic surgeries performed by Dr Malladi include laparoscopic surgeries for diseases including abdominal pain, appendicitis, gallstones, hernia, intestinal diseases, gastro-oesophageal reflux, diaphragmatic hernia, splenic disorders, liver cysts etc.
Dr Malladi has taken great interest in developing laparoscopic surgery for hernia – which is a common problem. The advantages of laparoscopic hernia surgery have helped many patients to return to their work earlier. Beyond the frequent inguinal hernia repairs that he carries out in a breeze, he has performed surgeries for incisional, ventral, femoral, para-oesophageal hernias presenting with various complications as well.
Laparoscopic surgery offers the advantage of faster recovery and shorter hospital stay. Dr Malladi believes that this advantage offers early resumption of daily activities and early return to work. His mantra about Laparoscopic Surgery is “Return to Life, Quickly”.
